Joe Rae

Joe Rae left a 30-year teaching career to take up property development and used Dan-Wood to build five houses on the Isle of Arran.

This involved eight 14-foot artic trucks and a team of skilled Polish craftsmen arriving from Warsaw via the Ardrossan to Brodick ferry - in variable weather.
But once on site, the build went like a military operation.

"It's a common problem in construction that you can't continue with the walls because the electrician hasn't put the wires in, or you can't put the wires in because the partition hasn't been constructed," Joe explained. "But with the Dan-Wood guys it was seamless, because when each of the experts had finished working on their bit, they fell into line and helped on another part of the build."

Dan-Wood's tradesmen were also on site every morning before 7am and were rarely seen enjoying the proverbial British tea break. The team's attention to detail included shining a heavy floodlight along the walls to identify and flatten any convex or concave anomalies and ensuring there were no paint or plaster splashes on any of the finishes.

Joe sold four of the houses and kept the fifth, with stunning seas views, while gearing up for his next project.

"There's a site ready to have another house plonked on it and I wouldn't be surprised if we got Dan-Wood involved in that, too," he said.
